Hey, now that I've taken off the kitchen whites uniform for another day, I want to sit down, relax and talk to you about something very important, that most people will never get the opportunity to learn or understand, although very unfortunate it truly is. Cooking is to eat, to eat is to fuel our bodies, to fuel our bodies is to nourish ourselves on the cellular level with proteins, minerals, vitamins and other nutrients as well as most importantly balance our internal pH.
I have been working within the food industry for over 25 years now, yet it is only now that I've finally come to fully comprehend the WHOLE PURPOSE & PROCESS of cooking and of eating as mentioned above. While the vast majority of today's society takes for granted one of the most important things we all must do to sustain life itself! During my research for developing this online business I looked deeper into the Purposes & Processes. What I found absolutely stunned and shocked me! I was horrified because here I was an extremely knowledgeable food person for so many years, BUT even I DIDN'T GET IT! I was so focused on the cooking aspect of food and eating of food I never once stopped to think of the WHY! What I found was cooked foods DO NOT nutritionally support the body and that the process of eating robs our bodies of the enzymes required by the body to digest or use any of the nutrients from the foods we are eating!
During my months & months of research I came across an email I was sent some months prior that exploded my learning curve. It started to slowly pull together all of my disjointed notes I had scratched down here and there. The researched material I had collected was confirmed by all this new information! It didn't take me too long to piece together my own personal physical problems I was having. Actually it started years ago when my doctor told me to start taking some vitamins. When I talked to a pharmacist he told me that just about all commonly known vitamin brands do absolutely nothing for you! The reason for this is that all they are required to have by law are only TRACE amounts of any stated ingredients. Seldom ever putting any more than what is absolutely needed by the guidelines set down by their governing body. Heck, one of my close friends use to do a TV commercial for the largest national selling brand of these multi-vitamins.
It was hard for me at first to realize that the process of eating defeated the purpose of eating! For an example, oil is the raw material used to produce gas for your engines. BUT it must be refined before you pour it into your gas tank. Our own bodies do the refining process itself, of turning the raw materials/foods we eat into actual FUEL our bodies can use! Enzymes are what is needed to break down our foods into fuel. The drawback to this fact is that we are using up enzymes while trying to take in more enzymes from food.
As a chef I know for a FACT that YOU can not eat enough food to get ALL that your body needs to function properly and to stay healthy. Now that's a bit much to wrap your mind around all at once. In order to get the proper amount of a given vitamin we would need to eat several pounds of a given food solid to achieve the daily amount of say vitamin E, to which you would need to eat 3.3 lbs of spinach ( which is the best source of vitamin E by the way ) required. The bottom line is that we cook to eat, we eat to live and we all want to live longer, healthier lives. To do so, supplementation is absolutely required. Not just any supplements though as you need ones that are designed and engineered to do what they are suppose to do!
